Project Overview
Kaiser Permanente Hawaii’s Center for Integrated Health Care Research (CIHR) conducts population-based research within one of the nation’s most ethnically diverse and geographically isolated healthcare systems. Established in 1999, CIHR advances knowledge in infectious diseases, epidemiology, genetics/genomics, and healthcare services research through multidisciplinary collaboration and integrated healthcare data systems.
Project Summary
Under the leadership of Janet Myers, MD, and collaborating investigators at CIHR, the center conducts innovative research focused on infectious diseases, pulmonary nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) disease, tuberculosis, vaccine effectiveness, and chronic disease prevention. Research efforts leverage large-scale electronic health records, healthcare administrative databases, national disease registries, and prospective cohort studies to improve patient outcomes and reduce disease burden.
Project Goals
- Improve understanding of pulmonary NTM disease and bronchiectasis
- Advance infectious disease prevention and screening strategies
- Enhance treatment outcomes and disease management approaches
Impact
CIHR’s research initiatives continue to improve understanding of infectious diseases and pulmonary NTM conditions in Hawaii’s diverse patient population. Ongoing collaborations and data-driven studies contribute to advances in disease prevention, vaccine research, treatment effectiveness, and long-term patient care strategies while supporting innovation across integrated healthcare systems.
Advancing Research. Improving Lives.
Supporting innovative pulmonary and infectious disease research that advances healthcare outcomes and improves patient care across diverse populations.
